31st - Cassis and Le Route des Crêtes

Our final treat was a visit to the beautiful Mediterranean port of Cassis, and a boat trip along the Callanques. Tomorrow we relax and pack and get ready to wend our way back up the country.
We've always loved Cassis and try to visit most years if we can.

Then we went on a boat to visit the Callanques (creeks) along the coast which are really  only accessible on foot or by sea.

Then we came home via the Route des Crêtes which is so high and exposed that it is often shut when it is windy.
Fortunately, unlike last year, it was open and the views back to Cassis were stunning.

30th - Le Pont d'Avignon et Colleen des Morgues

Set off this morning for a visit to the famous Pont d'Avignon...

but it was so busy and there was NOWHERE to park, so we ended up having Petite Dejeuner in the square at Villeneuve,

which was delicious, and made up for everything!!
Then we climbed the Colleen des Morgues (hill of the dead) which we had passed on other days but never actually been up.

The views were spectacular, and well worth the effort!

29th - Bedoin and the Dentelles de Montmirail

Set off early this morning to go up Le Mont Ventoux.
However when we got to Bedoin.......

.....we found ourselves in the middle of a race en pied (feet) that was just about to set off up the road to the top of the mountain
and the road was shut for the morning!

So we decided to stop and watch the race set off, and treated ourselves to Petite Dejuner while we waited.
Well, of course, there was nothing else to do!!

Pete thought he'd join in too, but unfortunately he was a bit too late setting off!!

so we had to be content with going up the other way and watching from a distance.
It was however a far better choice, such a beautiful road.

When we got to the top Pete decided to go for a walk up a ridiculously steep path,

I was sensible and decided to stay at the bottom and read my book.....
but actually I think I missed out as it was beautiful and lived up to its lacey name!

There were views to die for.......

He even met some Brits climbing!!

and getting stuck!
